We’re excited to share that the Wiregrass AI Peanut Sorter is featured in the July/August 2026 issue of Southeastern Peanut Farmer, as part of the 2026 Peanut Harvest Guidebook. The story, “The Future of Peanut Sorting” by Peyton Woods, runs on page 14. Thank you to Peyton and the whole SEPF team for telling it.
Why we built it
Sorting farmer stock peanuts is one of the most physically demanding jobs at a buying point. Crews of two to four people sort by hand for 10 to 12 hours a day, for roughly 100 days in a row. Fatigue sets in, and fatigue hurts accuracy and speed as the season goes on. We wanted a tool that works the same on day one as on day one hundred.
What it does
Using cameras and AI, the sorter separates farmer stock peanuts into three bins: pods, loose shelled kernels (including split kernels), and foreign material like sticks, stones, empty shells, raisins, and dirt. Our models are trained on thousands of real farmer stock samples from the Wiregrass, and they detect everything, including hard-to-catch raisins, at around 95 percent accuracy.
To be clear, grading is still a regulated process that follows USDA standards. The sorter doesn’t replace that expertise. It supports one of the critical steps before grading.
What’s next
This harvest is a big milestone for us. For the first time, we’re putting industry-grade machines into the field to sort real farmer stock at buying points. Our goal this season is to test, evaluate, and improve. Longer term, we want every one of the roughly 1,100 grading and regrading stations to be able to grade faster, more accurately, and more consistently, with shorter lines and fair pay for every load.
